What Do I Offer?

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)?
TCM is a holistic system of primary health care used by millions of people around the world. Based on a theoretical framework developed over thousands of years, it is an ancient practice which has stood the test of time and maintained a place in contemporary health care.TCM aims to restore balance and harmony to the human body when it is no longer functioning optimally due to stress, overwork, poor diet or many other factors. TCM provides effective treatment for a wide range of acute and chronic health disorders, however just as much emphasis is placed on regulating general immune function and maintaining optimal body function because we believe prevention is always better then cure.

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture when provided by a nationally registered practitioner like myself is very safe, it involves the stimulation of specific acupoints in the body to correct imbalances in the flow of Qi (life energy) flowing through the body's meridians (channels). Whilst acupuncture is most commonly associated with the insertion of very thin solid needles into the skin, I also use other techniques such as moxibustion which is the burning of Herbs, and cupping which is the placement of suction cups on the skin to stimulate acupoints. The most common question I am asked by new patients is "does acupuncture hurt?" The exact sensation varies person to person however many people feel a small transient sting as the acupuncture needles are inserted. This quickly abates and is often replaced by a dull heaviness in the area until the needles are removed.
